Fire broke out at the basement
of a multi-storied building in posh Alipore area here triggering panic among residents.
State Disaster Management Minister Javed Khan, who visited the spot, said that 16 fire tenders fought the blaze, which broke out in the basement area of the residential-cum-commercial building at around 12.20 PM, in about six hours.

The residents immediately came out of their apartments, while the commercial establishments in the ground floor were closed as smokes started billowing.
Fire brigade sources said the cause of the fire or the extent of damages were yet to be ascertained.
A fireman received minor injury during operation.
The minister said that the department would conduct an inquiry into the cause of the fire and if there was any negligence on the part of the builders, "Steps will be taken."
KMC Mayor Shovan Chatterjee also visited the spot to monitor fire fighting operations.
