A magisterial probe has been ordered into fire incident in the collectorate's record room here, in which important records of court were burnt, a senior official said today.

Additional District Magistrate R K Sharma would conduct an inquiry into the incident, District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said.

A fire broke out at the collectorate's revenue record room here last evening, damaging important government records. Court files and other government records were also damaged in the fire, Additional District Magistrate Indermani Tripathi had yesterday said.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, he said.

Records of revenue cases and permanent land records of two districts -- Muzaffarnagar and Shamli -- were kept in the room.

Revenue records kept in more than 16 racks were burnt to ashes in the fire, Sharma said.

Tripathi, however has not ruled out the incident being a conspiracy hatched by the accused in the Hastinapur Sanctuary land-grabing scam.
