Fire brigade sources said that 10 fire tenders were at work to put-off flames at the paper godown on Canal East Road, located next to a slum, under Ultadanga police station area.
There was no news of any injury or casualty and the residents of the slum were shifted to a nearby place, they said.
It was not clear whether the fire was triggered by Dewali fireworks or any other reason.
