A fire broke out in a plastic shop
at Suriampalayam, 15 km from here, today but it was doused by fire force personnel before it spread to other areas, police said
Hundreds of plastic water cans, old news papers and other materials were destroyed.
The cause of the fire is being probed.
Another fire broke out in a book shop at Veerappanchatram, a suburb of Erode, around 2 am.
School books, note books and other stationary articles were destroyed in the blaze,police said.
