Fire in the hotel, one person killed

A 50-year-old businessman was killed when fire broke out in a hotel in Kavi Nagar area due to a short circuit, police said today.

A fire broke out on the sixth floor of the Apple Tree hotel due to a short circuit around 11:30 PM last night leaving 10 people trapped, City Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said

Upon information, seven fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

In an attempt to escape the blaze, three of the stranded guests were injured while Sushant Khare, a native of Nagpur, sustained burn injuries.

Khare was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead. The family members of the deceased arrived here this morning, Sharma said.
 

The body was handed to them after the postmortem, he said, adding, investigations are underway.
