A major fire broke out in a footwear shop in Attari Bazar area in the wee hours today, which engulfed two adjacent shops and the fire tenders taking it more than six hours to douse the flames.

Assistant Regional Fire Officer Surjeet Singh said they recieved a call around 1 am regarding a fire incident in Attari Bazar.

It took around six hours to douse the flames, Singh said, adding two adjacent shops were also gutted by the fire.

It was not possible for the fire brigade vehicles to reach the spot due to narrow lanes, so we had to take water from an underground tank, he said.

In another fire incident around midnight, an electronics shop near Shehnai Palace was gutted.

Police said they are trying to ascertain the cause of fire and total loss due to it.
