"Around 90 fire calls were made today in the city. All of them are minor accidents. There has no been no casualty so far," an official in the Fire Control Room said late evening.
Some thatched huts were damaged after a fire broke out in Kaduvetti near Kalmandapam in North Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services has deployed 64 fire tenders across the city as a precautionary measure.
A Kumbakonam report said three thatched houses were partially gutted while in Madurai, paper worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in a fire in a paper godown, police said.
