Fire safety performance of DAE units better than other nations

Nuclear units under the Department of Atomic Energy in India were far better in industrial fire safety performance than that of similar industries in other countries, a top Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) official said today.

The occupational injury and fire statistics in the nuclear units across the country for 2013 was released by AERB Chairman S S Bajaj at a function in Mumbai.

"This compilation provides the information on industrial and fire safety performance of DAE units. The industrial safety indicators of DAE units are far better than that of similar industries in the country," AERB Secretary R Bhattacharya said in a statement.
 

Industrial Safety Award in production units group comprising nuclear power plants and heavy water plants was bagged jointly by Tarapur Atomic Power Station 1 and 2 and Tarapur Atomic Power Station 3 and 4.

In the Research and Low Risk Units Group, Heavy Water Plant, Talcher has received the Industrial Safety Award.

Fire Safety Award in the category of high fire risk unit was given jointly to Heavy Water Plant, Kota and Rajasthan Atomic Power Station 3 and 4. Heavy Water Plant, Baroda is the winner of the Fire Safety Award is category of low fire risk units group.
