Firearms, valuables stolen from police vault

As many as 44 fire-arms, jewellery worth Rs 91 lakh and other valuables were allegedly stolen from a police store room inside the collectorate premises here, an official spokesman said today.

Two semi-automatic rifles, one rifle, five pistols, two revolvers, 34 country-made firearms, 91 cartridges and two precious figurines along with gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 91 lakh were stolen, the spokesman said.

Lodging the FIR yesterday at civil lines police station, the then head clerk of the vault, Siyaram, said the theft was detected on January 23 following which he was summoned as he used to maintain inventory of its contents.
 

Currently posted in Kasganj, Siyaram said he had been sent for on February 16 and had subsequently drawn up a list of the missing items to enable an FIR to be registered in the matter.
