Twentyfive persons were arrested today for conducting a fireworks display as part of the festivities at the famous Poruvazhy Malanada temple here which is the only shrine in South India dedicated to Duryodhana, eldest of the Kauravas.
Kollam District Collector had refused permission to conduct fireworks display during temple festivities following the Puttingal tragedy last year in the district that had claimed 118 lives.
Of the arrested, 24 are members of the temple managing committee.
In 1990, 26 persons had been killed during fireworks display at the temple.
