One of the accused, arrested in a case relating to firing at two Delhi Police constables at Connaught Place, has been denied bail by a court here which observed that he was also involved in other cases.

Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh dismissed the bail plea of accused Sunny who was arrested by the police after he had surrendered before it in October this year in connection with the case.

"Keeping in view that the applicant (Sunny) is involved in other cases as well, I am not inclined to consider his bail application and the same is dismissed," the judge said.

According to the prosecution, a police team consisting of two constables was on patrolling duty on October 11 under the jurisdiction of Barakhamba Road Police Station area.

They were keeping a watch on people who were roaming near railway lines and Shankar Market at Connaught Place here and on suspicion they stopped three persons and asked them about their antecedents, it said.

The three persons started running away towards Shankar Market and when they were chased by the two constables, one of the accused opened fire at the policemen, it said.

The police also said that both the constables managed to overpower the man who was firing at them and his pistol was seized while other miscreants took advantage of the opportunity and ran away from the spot.

The apprehended accused was identified as Rizwan and it was disclosed during the investigation that he was a member of a criminal gang from Uttar Pradesh which was involved in more than 18 cases in UP and three cases in Delhi.

The police said during the investigation, Rizwan disclosed that Sunny was one of his associates and they had planned to shoot one of their gang members to implicate a member of a rival gang.

During the arguments of the bail plea, Sunny's counsel argued that his client was falsely implicated in this case and he had surrendered on October 23, 2014 before the police.

The counsel also submitted there was no allegation against Sunny that he had fired at the police party and no recovery was effected from him.

The police had earlier said that five rounds were fired in the incident, four by the assailants and one by the policemen but no one sustained gunshot injuries.
