Aluminium prices went up by 0.54 per cent to Rs 166.80 per kg in futures market today as speculators raised bets, tracking a firm trend overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in April was trading higher by 90 paise, or 0.54 per cent, to Rs 166.80 per kg in business turnover of 707 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in May contracts edged up by 75 paise, or 0.45 per cent, to Rs 167.15 per kg in 61 lots.

Market analysts said widening of positions by traders on the back a firm trend overseas as a rally driven by supply concerns after the US slapped sanctions on Russian producer United Company Rusal regained momentum, influenced aluminium prices at futures trade here.

Globally, aluminium for delivery in three month climbed by 1.6 per cent to USD 2,507.50 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
