First day of Maoist bandh goes off peacefully

Demanding suspension of the Operation Green Hunt, the AOB Special Zonal Committee of the CPI (Maoist) had given a call for the bandh.

The first day of the bandh passed off peacefully without any untoward incidents, police said.

While life in the mandal headquarters of Visakhapatnam agency largely remained unaffected.

Movement of public transport buses to remote tribal areas in GK Veedhi, Chintapalle, Munchangiput and few other mandals was partially hit and created inconvenience for the commuters.

Police have advised officials of the state transport corporation to minimise their services to interior places in Visakhapatnam agency on Monday to avoid any untoward incidents.

 

Police are carrying out thorough vehicle checks at the entry points and dog squads have also been pitched in. PTI Corr NP
