Assam's Goalpara town got its first unmanned, self-cleaning, sleek and modular e-toilet on the occasion Independence Day.
The e-toilet was installed by Goalpara Municipal Board to meet the needs of the town, Goalpara deputy commissioner J V N Subramanyam said today.
The e-toilets have simple user interfaces and provide clean and hygienic sanitation facilities to the public users.

The automated public toilet unit was developed by Kerala-based Eram Scientific Solutions (ESS) and has a facility of pre-flushing before entering, automatic flushing once usage is done, in-built water tanks, sensors for water and electricity conservation, automatic platform cleaning and power back-up.
The performance status of the units can also be monitored via web using GPRS connectivity of the units.
''We have found the e-toilet to be a reliable solution for critical sanitation issue for a town like Goalpara," Subramanyam added.
