Indian Coast Guard has received the first of the series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) built by the public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited for the maritime agency to strengthen coastal security.
The vessel 'Aadesh' was delivered to the Coast Guard after successful completion of all its trials on September 25, a CSL release said here.
It will be operated by the Coast Guard station at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.
The vessel is the first in a series of 20 FPVs contracted by CSL for the ICG in 2010 with the delivery of the last craft slated for 2017.
The primary role of the vessel include fisheries protection and monitoring, patrol within the country's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and coastal patrol, anti- smuggling, search and rescue operations and for anti-piracy operations.
The vessels have a secondary role of providing communication link and escorting convoys during hostilities and war time, the release said.
