The international airport under construction in Kannur would witness the landing of the first flight by December 31 next, Kerala Minister in-charge of Airports, K Babu today said.
Speaking here after signing an MoU with a banks consortium for availing loans for the airport, he said the commercial operation of the airport was expected to start by May 2016.
The work on the airport was progressing fast, he said, adding, 55 per cent of the runway work and terminal work around 35 per cent had been completed.

Of the total cost of Rs 1,892 crore, a sum of Rs 892 crore was mobilised thrugh bank loans while the rest through shares, he said.
Kerala government has 35 per cent stake in the airport, he added.
Various state and central government institutions also have stake in the airport project, he said.
