The government will set up country's first medical devices park in Gujarat and also plans a pharma park in the state, Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar said today.
India is exporting medicines to approximately 200 countries, but we are still dependent on other countries for medical devices, Kumar said while laying the foundation stone of the permanent campus of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at Gandhinagar.
"As per honorable PM's vision of Make in India, we want to make India a self-sufficient in the field of medical devices. Our ministry is planning to set up a Medical Devices Park in Gujarat," Kumar said.

The new institution will emerge as a vibrant research and development centre dedicated in the field of medical devices," the Minister said in an official statement.
He further said that the Centre will also establish a pharma park in the state.
Reiterating PM's vision of Skill India and Make in India, the minister said the government is planning to expand Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology campus at Sanand after receiving additional land from the state.
Kumar also hailed state Chief minister Anandiben Patel for providing 60 acres of land for the premier pharmaceutical institute.
Patel also welcomed centre's initiatives and promised to extend all necessary support for them.
