The first phase of the paralleltaxiway (track) at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA)has been commissioned by the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
Air India Mangaluru-Mumbai flight number AI 680 was the first aircraft which used the 1,200 metre parallel taxiway.
Fire tenders at the airport gave water cannon salute to the aircraft, before it entered the taxiway.

Airport director J T Radhakrishna in a releasehere said that the time to reach the runway and waiting period at the runway will come down drastically with the new facility.
A valley with the depth of 30 metres was filled to build this taxiway and it took almost 18 months to complete the work.
The track was commissioned yesterday with the approval of the Director General of Civil Aviation, the release added.
