A US company has launched the first public automated vending machine that dispenses marijuana for patients by using biometrics to verify their identity.

The so-called Zazz machine was delivered to the Herbal Elements Medical Marijuana Dispensary in Avon, Colorado last week.

The machine uses biometrics to verify a customer's age and is climate-controlled to keep its product fresh, 'National Public Radio' reported.

"We're looking forward to using the ZAZZ machine to easily track all this inventory. We're gonna eliminate the middle man. It'll go straight from the budtender right into our machine," Herbal Elements owner Greg Honan said.

Honan said there is no room for theft by patients or employees as there is no way to lose track of the inventory.

The machine developed by the company American Green requires uses biometrics to verify a customer's identity.

For now, the ZaZZZ is aimed for use only by medical marijuana patients, the report said.

The ZaZZZ is not the only marijuana vending machine in US. Arizona and California have such machines but they are kept behind stores' counters.
