Fish production in Goa was recorded at 1,07,069 tonnes in 2015-16 against 86,205 tonnes in 2011-12, thanks to effective implementation of the marine fish ban period of 61 days, State Legislative Assembly was told.
State Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado furnished the information in a written reply tabled in the House yesterday.
"The reason for increase in production of fish in the state could be attributed towards a proper implementation of marine fish ban period of 61 days for the year 2015-16, in lieu of 47 days period for the year 2011-12 and other favourable environmental conditions," he said.
