Fisheries department inspector held for taking Rs 20K bribe

An inspector of the fisheries department was today arrested for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20,000, Lokayukta police said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested the inspector, Surendra Kumar Bakshi, when he was accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant from the bus stand area here, Lokayukta police inspector Manoj Gupta said.

Bakshi had demanded Rs 40,000 from the complainant for an official work but later settled for Rs 20,000, the official said.

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered, he said, adding a probe was on.
