A fisherman drowned after his boat sank in the sea after hitting a rock near Katchativu, fisheries officials said today.
His body was brought to shore today.
The incident occurred when the driver navigated in panic to escape from Sri Lankan navalmen, who had chased and threatened the occupants of the boat at gunpoint last night, they said.
Others in the the boat were rescued by some local fishermen, they said.
