Fishermen outfit seeks permanent solution to their woes

Chairman of National Fish Workers Forum (NFF) M Ilango today urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to ensure thata permanent solution was evolved during her forthcoming visit to Sri Lanka to end woes of Indian fishermen.

Ilango said in a release today that it was hoped by fishermen of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry when the NDA formed the government at the Centre in 214 that they would get a positive development and that they would face no hardships after the NDA came to power.

He said that during the previous Congress led UPA rule at the Centre talks were held and release of incarcerated fishermen of Tamilnadu also followed due to steps taken by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
 

He appealed to the Minister to make use of her forthcoming visit to Colombo on February 5 to ensure that a permanent solution was evolved through dialogues with the Sri Lankan government to end the woes of the fishermen of Tamilnadu and Puducherry who were facing hardships due to their arrest by Sri Lankan navy for alleged trespass into the territorial waters of island republic.
