Fishermen from across the country today met Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and demanded for reviving diesel subsidy on fishing boats.
A delegation of fishermen representatives from different states of the country also presented a copy of national policy on fishing and fishermen documented by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Fishermen apprised the problems being faced by them and those who are jailed and whose boats are confiscated by the authorities of neighbouring nations to the minister.

"Agriculture Ministry will review all existing schemes in the fisheries sector to ensure that these meet requirements of fishermen and fish farmers and seek to address their concerns," an official statement said.
Coastal fishermen representatives mentioned that the destructive fishing methods and gear should be controlled and utilisation of solar technology for the boats may also be looked into.
"The fishermen also requested that the diesel subsidy may be revived for the fishing boats," the statement added.
It was also told that the existing schemes meant to help such fishermen need to be fully implemented.
The minister also directed the concerned officials to discuss in detail all issues pertaining to fishermen with their representatives and find short and long term solutions to these issues.
