Four fishermen, stranded in the sea after the engine of their boat failed, have been rescued through coordinated efforts by Lankan Navy and the Indian Coast Guard.

While patrolling the region, ICGS Rajkamal identified the boat which was stranded about 2.5 nautical miles off Rameswaram in Sri Lankan waters, an official release said.

As the "rectification" of the boat in co-ordination with a Sri Lankan Naval ship was unsuccessful, the Sri Lankan Naval Ship towed it to the International Maritime Boundary Line from where it was taken over by the Coast Guard ship.

ICGS Rajkamal safely towed it to Mandapam near Tuticorin, today.

Investigations revealed that the fishermen ventured out for fishing on the midnight of November 12 and were stranded after the boat developed an engine breakdown, the release said.
