No sooner was the verdict on suspected honour killing of a Dalit man pronounced, two rival groups engaged in fisticuffs outside the court premises here before being dispersed by police.

Trouble broke out when one group objected to the other celebrating the judgement and talking to media persons.

The wordy quarrel led to clash between the groups.

Police, who were deployed in large numbers, immediately swung into action and managed to disperse the warring groups.

Police said two persons, said to be relatives of Chinnasamy, one of the six persons awarded death sentence in connection with the murder of 22-year old Shankar, suffered minor injuries.

Earlier, Tirupur Principal District and Sessions Judge Alamelu Natarajan sentenced six persons to death, one accused to double life term and another to five years imprisonment in the case.
