Fitness key to achieve better results in international sports: Sports Secretary

Sports, Physical Education, Fitness & Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC) & Europe Active (EA) work force development has signed an MoU with an aim to promote world-class sports fitness at the grassroots level in the country.

The MoU has been signed with the purpose of formulating a national register of fitness professionals to aggregate the efforts for employable workforce development and Institutional Capacity Building of the existing training facilities of the country.

The certified fitness trainers will be eligible to take up the role of fitness experts at schools across the country, thus, highlighting the importance of fitness in sports and training the kids at grassroots level with improved techniques.

 

Speaking about the importance of fitness in sports, Radhey Shyam Julaniya, Sports secretary, said: "Sports fitness is being taken up as an integral part of our strategy to do better in the future Olympic Games & other international tournaments. In the current scenario, policy changes are a major requirement for achieving excellence in sports and for this; we need to take some drastic steps.

"Standardised training facilities, operating procedures for coaches are the need of the hour to maintain the international standards and to compete at the international level.
