Five arrested for alleged quarrying

They were produced before Melur magistrate Jayakumar, who remanded them to judicial custody for 15 days.

Two of the arrested were relatives of P R Palanisamy, owner of the company, police said.

As part of the crackdown on illegal granite quarrying, criminal cases had been filed against the PRP Exports company partners including Palanisamy accusing them of causing revenue loss to the government and violating explosives act.

Palanisamy had already surrendered.
