Five arrested for robbery

Five persons were arrested for

allegedly robbing a businessman of Rs 16 lakh at gun point outside his house in Shastry Nagar here, police said today.

Shaukin, Raja, Murshid, Nakib and Meherwan, all hailing from western Uttar Pradesh, were nabbed for robbing Rajendra Tambi last night, Police Commissioner Biju Joseph said.

"They were held in Hasanpura area when they were sharing the money. They were planning to leave the city after sharing the money," he said.

A revolver and the money was seized from their possession, he said.

"One of the accused, Shaukin, had gone to purchase mobile handset in a shopping complex five days ago when he saw Tambi carrying money home in a bag.
 

"He decided to rob him and called his four accomplices from Uttar Pradesh for the crime," Joseph said.

The five accused conducted reccee and snatched the bag containing Rs 16.83 lakh from Tambi at gun point before he could enter his house, he said, adding that they fled on a bike.

They mistakenly dropped a mobile phone at the spot and police traced them after they called on the cell to find out its location, Joseph said.
