Five arrested for stealing diesel from IOC pipeline in Kanpur

Police have arrested five members of a gang allegedly involved in stealing oil from the pipelines of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and recovered a tanker with 20,000 litres of diesel from their possession in Ghatukhera area here.

The five members of the gang were arrested late last night while they were stealing the diesel from the pipeline passing through a forest area near Ghatukhera and transferring it into a tanker, Kanpur SSP K S Emanuel said.

Four other members of the gang managed to flee from the spot.

Police recovered a tanker with 20,000 litres of diesel, one Scorpio jeep and a motor-bike from their possession, the SSP said.
 

The five arrested were identified as Sagir, Nand Kishore, Salim and Majid from Kanpur and Vimlesh Kumar from Mainpuri.

Two of the absconding members of the gang hail from Gujarat, the SSP said, adding search is on to trace the four absconding accused.
