Five arrested for tar adulteration

Thane police in Maharashtra have arrested five persons for involvement in tar adulteration racket.

Tar is used for road-surfacing work.

Additional commissioner of police Makarand Ranade said here that the accused were arrested today while mixing tar with a powder near Temghar pipeline on the Mumbai-Nashik highway.

Police seized tar, a tanker, a mixer and a generator, all worth Rs 70 lakh in total.

A case was registered at Kongaon police station.

The arrested men were identified as Sharif alias Gotya Shamiullah Qureshi, Baliram Saroj, Abdul Bashid Khan, Fulbadan Jagannath Yadav and Umesh Saroj.
