Five persons were arrested today in connection with a dowry harassment case near Srivilliputtur, police said.
Police said Rajini Devi and M Ganesh Kumar had got married in 2011 and were living in Chennai and had a daughter.
At the time of marriage, valuables including 100 sovereigns of gold and Rs.3 lakh were given as dowry, police said..
But Rajini Devi's father-in-law and members of her husband's family allegedly demanded another 50 sovereigns of gold and Rs five lakh and threatened her,police said.
Following a complaint lodged by her, police arrested her husband, his parents, sister and husband, police said.
