Haryana police today claimed to have arrested five alleged criminals at sector 55-56 crossing in Gurgaon and recovered some arms and ammunition from them.

A police spokesman said acting on a tip-off, the police had put up barriers on the Golf course extension road on the intervening night of July five and six.

When the police tried to stop the vehicle in which the criminals were travelling they allegedly opened fire and tried to escape towards Faridababd.

But the police caught hold of them and recovered two country made pistols, four live rounds of cartridges, two used cartridges and a pick-up vehicle from them.

During interrogation, they revealed that only a couple of days ago, the leader of their gang identified as Naim, a resident of Rajasthan, had stolen a new pick-up van from Palam Vihar area.

He went to his village in this stolen vehicle and was returning with weapons and accomplices to allegedly commit a crime in Gurgaon, the spokesman said.
