Five candidates file papers in East Godavari on first day

Five candidates today filed their nominations for as many Assembly seats on the first day of submission of papers today.

The aspirants included two candidates from YSR Congress Party and three Independent candidates.

As many as 19 Assembly seats and 3 Lok Sabha seats are going to polls on May 7, said district collector cum election officer Neetu Prasad.

The nominations were filed for Pithapuram, Peddapuram, Kakinada Rural, Rajahmundry Rural and Ramachandrapuram assembly segments. However, no nomination was filed for three Lok Sabha constituencies of Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Amalapuram on the first day today, she said.

"Pendem Dorababu of YSRCP filed two sets of nominations for Pithapuram, while Independent candidates Pepakayala Dorababu, Thumulapalli Nuka Raju and YSRCP's Akula Veeraju filed their nominations from Peddapuram, Kakinada Rural, and Rajahmundry Rural seats. Thadebabu Prasad, filed his nomination for Ramachandrapuram assembly seat as an Independent," the Collector said.
 

The nominations will be accepted till April 19 and last date of scrutiny is April 21.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be April 24 and elections will be held on May 7.
