Five carjackers of Bakkarwala gang arrested

Working on a case of knife-point loot of an Innova car near Hotel Grand Hayat in Vasant Kunj, police got specific information that Chander Prakash alias Chandu, who was serving life sentence in a murder case and had jumped parole and joined Rattan Chopra alias Pakistani gang, would be coming at Malviya Nagar Metro Station via M M T C Road in a stolen car, they said.

"Acting on the information, police laid a trap yesterday and apprehended Chandu who was driving a stolen car with fake registration number and recovered a loaded country made pistol with 11 live cartridges from the Sonu's possession, who was sitting next to him," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP South District.

 

Two more gang members, Rattan Chopra alias Pakistani and Jitender alias Raghu Bhai were also arrested along with stolen car near Malviya Nagar metro station and a Khukri and robbed mobile phone were recovered from them, the official said.

Later, one Amit alias Mitu was also arrested from his house at Gotampuri in Badarpur.

"Chopra alias Pakistani is close aide of notorious carjacker Manoj Bakkarwala, who is presently in jail, and in his absence Chopra was heading the gang," Sharma said.

Police has also recovered two house breaking implements, two robbed mobile phones, credit, debit and i-cards from them.

The gang members used to move in a stolen car with fake number plate and firearms and look for luxury vehicles in which only driver is present.

They used to avoid police pickets or areas where traffic police used to conduct checking. They used to strike gullible drivers near the markets or malls with 2-3 members scaring the driver at gun point or knife and forcing him to sit on the back seat and one of them occupying the driving seat of the car.

The driver of the car would be thrown out of the car and they used to get away with the car.

Apart from carjacking, they werc also involved in chain snatching and train robberies.

"They used to make the train stop in the secluded area by changing the signal from green to red with the help of coin and as soon as the train would stop, the gang members used to enter the AC compartment and rob the passengers at gunpoint," Sharma said.
