Five college students killed in accident near Nagpur

Five college students were killed and three others were seriously injured when the Sports Utility Vehicle they were travelling in rammed into a stationary truck near here today afternoon.

The deceased included daughter of a city-based police officer.

The accident took place around 3.30 pm near Shehenshah Hotel on Amravati Road in Wadi area on the outskirts of the city, police said.

The victims, aged between 20 to 22 years, were students of Hislop College, and were out for a long drive after college hours, police said.

The deceased were identified as Vishal Ratwani (21) (whose family owned the SUV), Satya Singh (20), Dheeraj Pathade (20), Nisha Nikam (21) and Divya Paku (21).
 

Nisha Nikam is daughter of Rajendra Nikam, a police officer attached to Nagpur crime branch.

DCP (Zone 1) Krishnakant Upadhyay told PTI that according to the preliminary information, the speeding SUV hit the road divider and then a container truck parked on the roadside.
