with the abduction of a Gurgaon-based businessman's son, among other crimes, were nabbed after a brief exchange of fire near Kami village in Sonepat district, police said today.
A car, a motorbike, Rs 28 lakh cash, four country-made pistols and revolvers and 11 live cartridges were also recovered from their possession, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Rohtak and Sonepat police nabbed Lilu, Sandeep, Ashish, Sunil and Pawan last night, Alok Mittal, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Rohtak Range Police told reporters here.
"The criminals were also involved in a kidnapping case of 17-year-old son of a Gurgaon-based businessman. They abducted the youth at gunpoint near Meham town on November 3 and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh," Mittal said.
The businessman had got his son freed from their clutches after giving them Rs 37 lakh on November 7, he said.
A case under various sections of IPC and Arms Act has been registered against them with Sadar Police Station in Sonepat, he said.
The IGP said over 24 cases of crime were registered against the accused were in various police stations of Sonepat, Rohtak and Panipat districts.
