Five customs house brokers and forwarding agents have been arrested here for allegedly forging Pre Shipment Inspection Certificates (PSIC) for clearance of imported goods.

The arrests followed raids on their offices yesterday, based on information received by Commissioner of Customs that some customs brokers and forwarding agents were making and using fake documents to clear imported goods, a customs release said.

The five were nabbed by officers of Special Investigation and Information Branch of Custom House, it said.

PSIC is mandatory for import of metal scrap to prevent any hazardous substance or arms and ammunitions mixed with metal scrap from entering the country. It is issued by the accredited inspection agency after a thorough inspection at Port of Shipment.

The release said a search is on to nab one more person.
