Five drown in Cauvery, CM announces relief to the bereaved

Five persons, including four of a family, drowned in the Cauveryriver in the district Tuesday.

The incident happened at Pothanur near Paramathivelur and the river has been receiving more water due to the recent rains with the water flow being swift.

Condoling the deaths, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami said that four of a family - identified as Saravanan, his wife Jothimani and their children Deepakesh and Sarakesh, and another woman Devi drowned and their bodies were later fished out.

Expressing grief over the deaths, he announced a relief of of Rs one lakh to each of the families of the deceased.

 

Forest and Revenue department officials were searching for one missing person, he said, and urged people to abide by the rules of police and public works department on using designated spots to bathe in rivers.
