Five drug peddlers arrested in Jammu

Five alleged drug peddlers were arrested in separate incidents in Jammu region on Saturday and 7,000 intoxicant capsules and small quantity of narcotic substances seized from them, police said.

Three persons found involved in anti-social activities, including suspected drug peddling, were taken into preventive custody from Rajouri district's Darhal area. They are lodged in district jail at Dhangri, a police spokesperson said.

He said an order for their detention was issued by executive magistrate.

Another drug peddler was arrested from Kathua district's village Tareyada-Barnoti and booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, after he was found in illegal possession of 7,000 intoxicant capsules, the spokesperson said.

 

In the third incident, police seized 700 grams of poppy straw from a suspected drug peddler in Samba district's Ramgarh area.

The accused was found moving in a suspicious manner and signalled to stop. He has been booked under the NDPS Act, the police spokesperson said.
