Five fined for poaching rabbit in Coimbatore district

Five persons were fined Rs 5,000 each for allegedly poaching rabbits in Sirumugai forest range in the district, forest department sources said today.

The department officials who were on patrol duty yesterday, had noticed five persons moving in suspicious manner in the forest area and intercepted them, they said.

During a search, they found six rabbits in a bag, out of which two were dead.

The live rabbits were then released into the jungles, they said.

The District Forest Officer ordered the gang members to pay Rs 5,000 each and were let off, they added.
