Five persons were arrested for allegedly thrashing and looting a Surat-based youth at suburban Mahim station here, railway police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the victim Arvind Pandey (19) was resting on platform number one at Mahim station. At that time, an unidentified person snatched his bag and tried to run away, a police official said.

Pandey then chased and got hold of the man near the platform. Suddenly, four other associates of the accused came and thrashed the victim, he said.

As per the official, one of the accused even attacked Pandey with a sharp-edged weapon, leaving him injured after which all the five accused fled the spot.

The victim immediately approached the railway police and lodged a complaint.

Railway police then formed a team to probe the case. Officials scanned the CCTV footage at the Mahim station and identified the accused. Within couple of hours, all the accused were apprehended, he added.

The accused were identified as Ramjan Sheikh, Namdeo Kasbey, Rahul Naidu, David Korna and Ramesh Malepang, railway police said, adding investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, Pandey was admitted to the civic-run Sion hospital.
