A 26-year-old NRI man, along with four others, has been booked in connection with alleged rape of a Dalit woman here, police said today.

The woman (22), belonging to Sangatpur village, has alleged that Dubai-based NRI Hardev Singh had raped her by threatening her, Phagwara Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manpreet Singh Dhillon said.

Besides Singh, his father Mohinder Singh and mother Sukhwinder Kaur, residents of village Lakhpur, and Anju Khurana and Meena Saini, both of Phagwara, have been booked on complaint by the woman.

She has alleged that the other four accused had hatched a conspiracy for the crime committed by Hardev, who has managed to go back to Dubai after the incident, he said.

The five were booked last night under IPC Sections 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 323 (punishment for causing hurt), he said.

Since the victim belongs to the Dalit community, relevant sections of Prevention of Atrocities on Scheduled Castes Act were also added, the DSP said.
