Five persons were today injured when an elected panchayat member and his brother allegedly fired from a pipegun after their children were beaten up by a rival group during a football match at a village in South 24-Parganas district, police said.
Five persons were injured in the firing by panchayat member Nawaz Molla and his brother Shufiq Molla when the soccer match, in which their children were playing, was in progress at Haskumrakhali village, the police said quoting a complaint lodged at the local police station.
The accused are absconding and the injured villagers were admitted to a local hospital, the police said.
Two of the injured were later shifted to a hospital in Kolkata.
