Five injured in clash over stolen sugarcane

Tension prevailed at a village in the Shamli district here, after two groups clashed over the stealing of sugarcane, police said today.

According to the circle officer of police Rajesh Tiwari, five people were injured in the clash yesterday which saw the two groups allegedly assaulting each other with stones and lathis.

The incident took place at Sunna village here after a woman allegedly stole sugarcane from someone else's field, and after the owner objected to the theft, a clash broke out between the two communities, he said.

"Five people, including Shamim, Riyast and Rahul, were injured during the clash, while two have been arrested in this connection," the officer said.
 

Police claims that calm has been restored in the village and that the situation is under control.

However, as a precautionary measure, security has been tightened in the village to avoid any untoward incident, he added.
