Villagers ran out of their homes in panic as the fire swept through the village, with five suffering burns, Superintendent of Police S M H Mirza said.
The fire also left 15 livestock dead, he said.
Three fire engines from Shantipur in neighbouring Nadia district failed to reach the spot because of bad roads, Mirza said.
Villagers rallied around and set up pumps with which the fire was brought under control, the SP said.
Circle Inspector, Amit Mitra and Trinamool Congress local MLA Swapan Debnath visited the fire ravaged village. The administration has provided Rs 7000 to each of the affected families.
West Bengal Kabaddi Association Secretary Habib Ali said that the village was home to 30 kabbadi players.
