Odisha government today said at least five new internal water ways has been identified in state which could be utilised in ferrying passengers and goods.
This was informed to the State Assembly by Transport and Commerce minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi while replying to a question. "We had engaged RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) to study feasibility of 15 proposed water ways. However, the RITES suggested that the five of them could be commercially viable," Majhi said.
The five rivers which have been identified as new water ways are in the rivers of Budhabalang, Kharsuan, Kani and Daya.
Replying to a question, the minister said the state government was giving adequate importance towards safety in water journey in different reservoirs.
