Five children, including two girls who were kidnapped from here and taken to Bangladesh on October 24 have been rescued from Noakhali district of that country and the kidnapper has been arrested, police said today.

Gomati district Superintendent of Police Prabir Majumder said Bangladesh police arrested the children from the house of a 68-year-old woman kidnapper and produced them before a local court there.

The court sent the children to a juvenile home there and sent the woman to police remand, he said.

The BSF, the SP said, has also taken up the incident with Bangladesh Border Guards for returning the children to their parents.

The children would, however, return only after completing the formalities, he added.

The five children, including a 10-month-old girl and another 11-year-old girl were kidnapped by the woman from Rangamati village of Gomati district.

The woman is a Bangladeshi citizen who was staying illegally in the country with her son, an Indian citizen. She had kidnapped the children following a family dispute, the SP added.
