: Five persons were killed and 17 injured in two separate road accidents in Tamil Nadu today, police said.
In the first mishap near this town, a middle aged couple were killed on the spot when the car in which they were travelling went out of control after a puncture, jumped over the median on a four-lane road and rammed a lorry coming from the opposite direction police said.
The couple were proceeding to Chennai from Nagercoil.
In another accident at Vadalur near Cuddalore district, three persons, including the driver and two women, were killed on the spot and 17 injured when a tourist van rolled down into a canal this morning when the driver attempted to give way to another vehicle coming from behind, police said.
All the injured have been hospitalised.
