The jeep carrying seven persons including the driver was on its way to Cuttack for treatment of a patient when it hit the bus near Tangi on the NH-5.
Three of its occupants including the patient Sukumar Maiti died on the spot while two died in the SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack.
Two persons with multiple injuries were undergoing treatment in the hospital and their condition was stable.
The victims belonging to Palapada area in East Medinipur district of West Bengal were carrying the patient to a private hospital when mishap struck them.
